SOMGOVERNOR SIGNS JOB CREATION AND RECOVERY TAX CREDIT BILL

Governor O'Malley recently signed the Jobs Creation and Recovery Tax Credit, which offers Maryland businesses a $5,000 tax credit for every unemployed Marylander hired, effective March 25, 2010 to December 31, 2010.  Working with the Governor, our legislators and our stakeholders in the business community, we were able to put forth this bold initiative which gives businesses the jump start they need to create new jobs.

To claim the Job Creation Tax Credit, employers must receive certification from the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) that their hires meet basic eligibility requirements.  The Maryland resident must be an Unemployment Insurance (UI) claimant or someone who has exhausted their UI benefits.  You can find these claimants by contacting your local One-Stop Career Center.  Some UI claimants may also have registered with the Maryland Workforce Exchange.  If you have eligible employees you have hired on or after March 25, you may file online – all applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

With this legislation, Maryland demonstrates strong business support and critical leadership that is needed now more than ever to strengthen the bottom line of our local businesses and put people back to work.

DLLR recently conducted a webinar explaining the program requirements and application process.  Both the presentation and tbe audio of the webinar are available on DLLR's website.

For additional information, please call (410) 767-2996 to speak with a DLLR representative.
