Two bills that recently passed the Maryland General Assembly will help preserve Deep Creek Lake and provide additional funding to Garrett County.
Passage of the Payment In Lieu Of Taxes bill for state forests, parks and wildlife management areas -- Senate Bill 273 -- will result in Garrett County receiving about $1 million in fiscal year 2019.
“The PILOT bill is huge for Garrett County as a whole, as it provides additional funding to cover our operating costs. This helps the general fund budget, which certainly will help with issues at the lake and all other areas of the county at large,” said Paul Edwards, chairman of the Garrett County Commission.
