For over 40 years the Railey family has been locally recognized as the go-to name for all things real estate and house related and most specifically, for their wide selection of vacation rentals. In fact, Railey Mountain Lake Vacations, owned by Nancy Railey, is the number one provider of vacation lodging at Deep Creek Lake. Railey Design Center, also owned by Nancy and managed by her daughter Jessie, is continuing in this rich family tradition of quality products and outstanding customer service.

When purchasing furniture and accessories for their home, today’s consumer has many options and may often times not even be sure where to look for high quality products. At Railey Mountain Lake Vacations, Nancy found that second homeowners especially needed top quality pieces that were durable and would hold up to extended wear and tear of numerous renters throughout the year. She started the Design Center six years ago solely as an added service for her homeowners: she and her staff researched furniture companies to find quality products at the best prices available. Jessie has always had a love of interior design so the two of them worked together for clients, but as their reputation grew so did their client base. Soon they had requests from not only their homeowners but also the people who were staying in the homes they had designed who wanted that same type of design aesthetic for their own home. Nancy owned a building along Route 42 that was being used for storage but the two quickly realized it would be the perfect location for a retail space to showcase their growing business. Located in a rambling building that has been home to many business ventures, the spacious interior and many rooms offer the perfect place where Jessie and long time RMLV staffer Brenda Steffan stage individual room vignettes and give customers an idea how these furnishings and décor could translate to their own home.

Railey Design Center opened in October of 2013 and was an instant success, based only on word-of-mouth recommendations. “We didn’t really do a lot of advertising at first,” explains Jessie. “We didn’t want to go too fast, too soon and sacrifice customer service,” she says. Adds Brenda, “We want every person coming through that door to feel like they are our only client.” And although both women say it’s still an educational process, one walk through their 10,000-square foot showroom shows the two have mastered the learning curve quickly. Railey Design Center offers unique furniture, home décor and accessories for every room in your home. They specialize in both a contemporary lake lodge look and rustic furnishings which combine traditional materials in new ways like beds made from reclaimed barn wood or tables made from distressed hardwood--beautiful, functional, and most of all, unique.

Whether you’re looking for a specialized piece or want to furnish an entire room or complete house, Jessie and Brenda can help. They work with each client on a one on one basis and offer complete design services. Not sure where to start? “Bring in photos of your current furniture and décor,” says Brenda. “We’re happy to offer advice on everything from paint color to picture placement.”

To keep up with design trends and manufacturers, the two attend furniture markets several times a year that house up to 500 vendors each. Explains Brenda, “Many furniture companies carry just one or two brand names. We’re pickier. We look at every vendor we can and choose the products with the highest quality, durability, and that ties into the overall look we’re trying to achieve.” As a result, here you’ll find the latest in lighting, area rugs, wall décor and so much more. They’re also very proud of the fact that they offer a large selection of American made products as well as pieces from local furniture makers.

Their newest venture is a partnership with America’s Mattresses and a complete mattress showroom is being set up on site now. Featuring some of the top selling brands in the United States with a variety of mattresses from innerspring, foam, coil and adjustable, so you can enjoy a perfect night’s sleep. What’s a comfortable bed without the proper dressing? The Design Center also offers top quality bedding including quilts from C&F that are durable and reversible…and hold up to multiple washings.

Railey Design Center also offers several home and bath products which are all natural and chemical free like The Naked Bee, Nature’s Nurture and Caldera which also make great and useful gifts.
