Garrett County Commissioners Form Marcellus Shale Natural Gas Advisory Group

The Garrett County Commissioners expressed concerns that proposed regulations on Marcellus shale drilling will severely limit the possibility of gas exploration and production that it will become an “economically unviable enterprise,” according to a letter sent to Brigid E. Kenney, senior policy advisor for the Maryland Department of Environment.
“Not only will proposed regulations be costly and time-consuming for extraction companies, but the proposed location restrictions and setbacks eliminate over 90 percent of our county from the possibility of vertical drilling operations,” said the letter.
The commissioners requested that MDE investigate alternative regulations that will not be as “onerous as the ones currently proposed.” Read more>>
