Garrett County COVID-19 Grant Programs

GRANT FUNDS AWARDED WILL COUNT AS BUSINESS  INCOME FOR TAX YEAR 2020, AND ALL GRANT RECIPIENTS WILL RECEIVE AN IRS FORM 1099.
 
BUSINESSES ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR BOTH GRANTS:
 
  • Businesses that have been awarded the Garrett County COVID-19 Business Assistance Grant, formerly known as the Garrett County Kick-Start Grant, ARE NOT eligible to apply for the Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) Grant.
 
  • Businesses that have been awarded the Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) Grant ARE NOT eligible to apply for the Garrett County COVID-19 Business Assistance Grant, formerly known as the Garrett County Kick-Start Grant.
 
The following business are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply for either grant: home-based businesses, churches or religious institutions, banks and financial institutions, investment/real-estate entities, government agencies, and independent contractors.
 

Garrett County COVID-19 Business Assistance Grant Program
(formerly the Garrett County Kick-Start Grant Program):


The Garrett County COVID-19 Business Assistance Grant Program, formerly known as the Garrett County Kick-Start Grant Program, was established by Garrett County Economic Development and the Garrett County Development Corporation for the purpose of providing one-time, short-term financial support to small businesses and sole proprietors impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to be used for expenses not covered by state or federal programs.

Home-based businesses, churches or religious institutions, banks and financial institutions, investment/real-estate entities, government agencies, and independent contractors ARE NOT eligible to apply.

Businesses that have been awarded a Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) Grant ARE NOT eligible to apply.

Businesses that have been open for less than one year MAY BE eligible for a lesser grant amount.

Grants will be on a first-come, first-serve basis until the pool of funds has been depleted.

Grant Terms, Conditions & Eligibility:
 
  • Maximum of $2,500
  • Business must be solvent and plan to reopen for business;
  • Business must be native to, and physically located within, Garrett County;
  • Business must be in good standing with the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation;
  • Business must be a “for-profit” restaurant or other food service business of any size OR a “for-profit” small business with no more than 25 employees OR a self-employed individual who does not fall into one of the excluded categories listed above;
  • Business must have been forced to reduce business services or operations, or had to close due to Governor Hogan’s Executive Orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic; AND
  • Business must prove significant loss of income due to government executive orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Garrett County Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) Grant Program:


As Garrett County, Maryland prepares to move into Phase 3 of Maryland’s Roadmap to Recovery in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, the County Commissioners are providing grant funds for the reimbursement or expected costs of purchasing plexiglass, signage, floor stickers, gloves, masks, sanitizer, and other items to keep staff and customers safe.
 
Home-based businesses, churches or religious institutions, banks and financial institutions, investment/real-estate entities, government agencies, and independent contractors ARE NOT eligible to apply.

Businesses that have been awarded the Garrett County COVID-19 Business Assistance Grant, formerly known as the Garrett County Kick-Start Grant, ARE NOT eligible to apply.

Grants will be disbursed on a first-come, first-serve basis until the pool of funds has been depleted.

Grant Terms, Conditions & Eligibility:
 
  • Maximum of $1,000
  • Business must be native to, and physically located within, Garrett County;
  • Business must be in good standing with the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation;
  • Business must be a “for profit” small business with no more than 25 employees (as of March 1, 2020) OR a “for profit” restaurant or other food service business of any size OR a self-employed individual who does not fall into one of the excluded categories listed above; AND
  • Business must have no pre-existing tax liens or legal judgments.
