Bounty Marketing Program - The Garrett County Development Corporation offers an innovative Bounty Marketing Program. Through this program, the Garrett County Commissioners offer a cash bounty of up to $10,000 for eligible participants who refer a qualified business to the Garrett County Department of Economic Development. County Tax Credits - The Garrett County Business Property Tax Credit Program for new and expanding businesses in Garrett County for improvements reflected on tax bills after June 30, 2007. The GIEC Property Tax Credit for technology-based businesses located in the Garrett Information Enterprise Center (GIEC) on the Garrett College campus in McHenry. The tax credits, to be applied against a business’s county real property tax, is intended to encourage and facilitate business and job growth in the county. The Garrett County Department of Economic Development will certify a business’s eligibility for these tax credits and administer the tax credit programs. Interested businesses should contact Kim Durst at (301) 334-1921 or kdurst@garrettcounty.org. Enterprise Zone Program - Maryland was a pioneer in the development of enterprise zones. It was the third state to enact its own Enterprise Zone Program, and one of the first states to designate zones. Enterprise zones in the state offer an attractive location alternative for industrial and commercial businesses. Companies locating or expanding in these zones are eligible for property tax and state income tax credits. There is a ten-year credit against local property taxes for real property improvements. There are 1-3 year credits on income tax for wages paid to eligible, new employees in the zone. In Garrett County, four County-owned Industrial and Business Parks are Maryland-designated Enterprise Zones. State Tax Credits - The State of Maryland offers a myriad of tax credits for the new or expanding business. Each of these credits is outlined in the State's Guide to Business Tax Credits. The guide offers a brief description of each credit and the appropriate contacts for obtaining more detailed information. Some of these tax credits may have additional requirements, carryover provisions, or recapture provisions that are not included in the information provided in the guide. You should contact the appropriate agency to make sure that your business meets all requirements.
